Screw compressor station

The most popular type of compressor unit for handling associated petroleum gas is a screw compressor. Klaster Trading House has extensive experience in designing and delivering compressor stations based on screw compressors. The screw compressors are widely used either in pumping hydrocarbon gases or as part of refrigeration plants. The compressors’ simple design, few moving parts and high operating efficiency (the maximum compression ratio per stage) assure their long service life and minimum operating costs.

The screw compressors are related to the positive displacement type of machine. The principle of operation of a screw compressor is as follows. Inside the compressor’s casing is a screw pair. One of the screws is male and fitted with projections while the second is female and fitted with grooves. In the oil-flooded type of compressor machine the screws are in contact with each other, whereas in the oil-free type there is no contact between them. A compression chamber is formed between the compressor’s screws and casing. The screws rotate towards each other. Gas is fed to the suction nozzle of the compressor and forced forward to the discharge nozzle as the screws rotate. The space of the compression chamber is decreased gradually, and the gas inside is compressed. Thereby the screw compressor ensures even gas input to the pressure piping.

The screw compressor’s throughput can be varied by a bypass line, changing the rotational speed of the screws, gas throttling at the compressor’s suction and using a special slide valve arrangement.

The drive unit of a screw compressor may be composed of an electric motor or gasoline, diesel or gas engine. In each particular case, the selection of the type of drive is based on the compressor’s power requirement and availability of fuel reserves or electricity necessary to ensure its operation.

The screw compressors are capable of flowing up to 11,500.00 actual cubic meters per hour of compressed gas (in terms of suction) at pressures of up to 6.2 MPa (abs.) at discharge.

Klaster Trading House has vast experience in supplying screw compressor stations and ensures performance of a complete work scope: from design to putting equipment into operation.
